Lady Bulldogs Fall Short Against Lady Trojans

The Batesville JV Lady Bulldog Volleyball Team dropped a heartbreaker to East Central last night falling in 3 games. Scores were 24-25; 25-18; 15-12. In game 1, the Dogs held off set point and scored 3 straight to sneak out the win. In set 2 a new lineup and missed serves were too much to overcome. In set 3, after trailing early, the team battled to a 12-12 tie before losing service allowing East Central to gain the momentum and ultimately the victory. Naia Bustinza was the top hitter for the evening with 5 kills at the net, while Shelby Westerfeld chipped in with 3 of her own. Sophie Lee was most consistent in serve reception and digs with 14 good passes and 16 digs. Courtesy of Bulldogs Coach Shelly Prickel.

From Kateri Paul: The East Central Trojans came to Batesville to take on an ailing Varsity Bulldogs. The Varsity Bulldogs are struggling to find their way without key players. In set one Senior Abby Westerfeld went down with a knee injury. This sent the team into a tailspin that we could not recover from. The Trojans defeated the dogs 25-13, 25-11, 25-11.  Captain Macy Prickel led the team in kills followed by Cayman Werner. Serving was led by Regina Gerstbauer who was 11 for 11. The Dogs take on the Connersville Spartans this Saturday.

Tonight, ECVB JV defeated Batesville in 3 tight sets. With a very slow start, EC lost the first set 24-25, but pulled out the next two sets 25-17 and 15-12. With a lot still to improve on, I was very proud of the way they proved that they can aggressively finish a set when they reach the final few points. Also, it took effort from ALL of the girls tonight and I was very happy with the way the girls from the bench stepped up and filled the shoes where it was needed.

JV is now 6-1 on the season. Next up, ECVB JV hosts Lawrenceburg September 5th.

‘We took control from the start and held it for majority of the match. We let them get a couple of runs throughout, but we did a great job at keeping our energy up and battling through with bigger runs of our own. The energy that our fans and JV team brought made it feel like we were at EC. That plays a huge factor in a rivalry match-up and helped the girls stay focused on the court. Our servers were aggressive and took risks and it paid off. Our back court was on top of their game so it let our setters run the court and our hitters did their job. All in all, it was a solid team effort from start to finish.’Trojans Coach Cassie Laker.’

Varsity is now 5-2 on the season and travel to Brownstown Central on Saturday for their invitational.
