Lady Bulldogs Battle Lady Olympians

The Batesville Lady Bulldogs were defeated 3-1 on Thursday night by the Columbus East Olympians. Batesville falls to 4-4 on the season and looks to go back above .500 on Saturday as they travel to Franklin County.

In the first half, the Lady Olympians took a 1-0 lead on a free kick from 40 yards out. There was a lot of traffic in front of the goal making it difficult for Olive Cerniglia to get to the ball as it rolled into the back of the net.  Despite Batesville having the majority of the possession through the first half, they found themselves down 1-0.

Columbus East would add two more early in the second half to go up 3-0. This was a big hole to overcome but Batesville strengthened their attack and urgency to score for the remainder of the game. With 15 minutes to play, Abbey Prickel netted the team’s first goal of the matchmaking it 1-0. Batesville would have several more good looks but just couldn’t put one in the back of the net to make the game tight again.

“Columbus East was a very strong, physical team without a lot of returning varsity players from a season ago. We knew going in that this would be a tough match to win. They outworked us at times in the game and it is hard to come back on a strong team like that. Abbey gave us a spark up top and we will continue to tweak our formation as we look to find more offense.” Coach Laker commented on the match,
