Kroger, Walmart recommending masks again

STATEWIDE — It’s not a requirement, but you’re being asked to wear a mask in at least two grocery stores, even if you’re vaccinated.

Kroger has announced it is “strongly encouraging” all individuals to wear a mask when in its stores, as the Delta variant of coronavirus continues to spread rapidly. Previously, Kroger had only required their unvaccinated employees to wear masks and requested unvaccinated shoppers do the same.

“I don’t think we’re asking that much of shoppers, to encourage them — including those who are vaccinated — to wear masks,” said Kroger spokesman Eric Halvorson. He represents the company’s Central Division, which includes the State of Indiana.

“The trips are fast enough, you’re in and out of the store fast enough. We don’t believe it would be a burden for anyone. And if there are people who are concerned about wearing masks again, then we have the Kroger (curbside) pickup options,” Halverson added.

Walmart is also encouraging all customers to wear masks in stores in areas with high infection rates from the Delta variant of coronavirus. Walmart employees will be required to wear a mask in those areas. Walmart also says it will require all management-level staff members to get vaccinated by October 4.
