King, Kirby, Briscoe and Singleton chosen IBCA Players of the Week; Orleans tabbed as IBCA Team of the Week

South Bend Saint Joseph sophomore Elijah King, Fishers senior Justin Kirby, Indianapolis Crispus Attucks senior Dezmon Briscoe and Jeffersonville senior Tre Singleton each helped his team to a semi-state championship, and that quartet comprises this week’s honorees in the IBCA/Franciscan Health Player of the Week program for 2024-25.

King, Kirby, Briscoe and Singleton are winners for the week of March 17-22 in the recognition program coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association. Also, Orleans has been cited as the IBCA/Ballogy Team of the Week in another part of this season’s IBCA recognition program.

Players of the Week are chosen by IHSAA district – King for District 1, Kirby and Briscoe for District 2, and Singleton for District 3. A single team from the entire state is cited as a Team of the Week in that portion of the program. Players and teams are recognized based on all performances in a Monday through Saturday week.

Kirby and Briscoe shared the District 2 award, while Singleton is a second-time Player of the Week honoree.

He previously was recognized for the week of Feb. 10-15.

Orleans, ranked No. 4 in Class A, is recognized as IBCA Team of the Week after it knocked off 1A No. 2 Hauser 69-67 and 1A No. 1 Clay City 50-47 to capture its first semi-state crown in 114 seasons of basketball. Senior Rylan Crocker scored 24 points, including the game-winning basket, while junior Alex DeWitt added 20 points and senior Bryce Jones had 11 points against Hauser. This is the first season for the IBCA Team of the Week program. The Team of the Week program is presented by Ballogy, another IBCA corporate partner.

Winners are chosen each week in the Player of the Week program from each of the IHSAA’s three districts, and one Team of the Week is selected from the entire state. Former Martinsville boys’ coach Kip Staggs oversees the selection of boys’ honorees. Former Brownsburg girls’ coach Debbie Smiley oversaw the selection of girls’ honorees during their season.

Coaches may nominate players and teams via buttons on the IBCA website (in.nhsbca.org). Coaches must be a current-year member for their players and/or team to be selected for a weekly award. Boys’ winners are chosen through the Monday following the IHSAA boys’ State Finals.
