Kenneth Jay DeVries, age 73, of Dillsboro went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 13, 2016, at Harbor Hospice House in Muskegon, Michigan. Ken was born on October 30, 1942, to Gerrit Anton and Anita (VanderVeen) DeVries in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After college, he married Virginia Van Sluyters on June 23, 1965. He served his country in the US Army from 1966 to 1968. Ken enjoyed being a father and grandfather. For over 40 years he served families managing funeral homes in Michigan. His deep desire was always to own his own funeral home. In October 2005 his dream came true when he and his wife purchased the Ulrich-Filter Funeral Home in Dillsboro, Indiana, and he enjoyed serving the Dillsboro and surrounding communities for the last 10 and a half years. He enjoyed visiting with friends and was never a stranger. ken was a member fo Dillsboro United Methodist Church, IFDA member, and Dillsboro American Legion member. Ken is proceeded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, three children, Ken, Jr., (Wendy) DeVries; Deborah (Dustan) Wellman; and Jason DeVries; four grandchildren, Remington, Madeline, and Trey Wellman, and Rachel DeVries; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Ken will be on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Dillsboro United Methodist Church with Pastor Mona Safley officiating. he will be laid to rest at the Sharon Presbyterian Cemetery in Farmington, Iowa, on Monday, June 20, 2016, at 10:00 AM. Friends may meet the family at Dillsboro United methodist Church on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorials may be made to Dillsboro United Methodist Church or Dillsboro Emergency Unit.
