(Brookville, IN) – Jurors in Franklin County returned guilty but mentally ill verdicts on all eight counts against Gregory Guilfoyle.
He was tried for the shooting of his wife and a Franklin County Sheriff’s deputy in December 2022.
It was three days before Christmas when Guilfoyle shot his wife Hannah in the head and then left his home near Cedar Grove on foot in a snowstorm, carrying his young daughter. Hannah Guilfoyle survived the shooting.
When Deputy Arin Bowers confronted him, Guilfoyle shot him and struck Bowers in his protective vest.
The deputy returned fire and Guilfoyle was paralyzed when he was shot during the exchange of gunfire.
A jury of 10 men and two women deliberated for two hours before reaching their verdicts.
Guilfoyle was facing two counts of Attempted Murder plus six other charges.
In Indiana, guilty but mentally ill carries the same penalty as any other conviction.
Guilfoyle could get between 20 and 40 years in prison when he’s sentenced next month.
A sentencing hearing has been set for May 2 at 9 a.m. in Franklin Circuit Court.
