Judy Jordan, 69, of Franklin, TN, formerly of Milan passed away on April 2, 2017. She was born April 12, 1947 in Batesville, Indiana to James and Mary (Colvin) Gilmer. She was most recently retired but began her working days with Union Insurance in Cincinnati, OH after having earned a business degree. She then became a full-time mom raising two boys. As the boys grew older, she ventured into a number of careers. Her first career was as a beautician in Milan, after completing cosmetology school. She then started her own salon and clothing business. Later, she found herself working with WRBI radio and finally with State Farm Insurance, both of Batesville, IN. During various careers, she continued her education taking other college classes.
Judy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family and friends. She was active in sewing and quilting and the local quilt guild. She loved music, as she played piano, violin, accordion and also sang in church and community choirs. She was active with church, especially the choirs. In Milan, she directed both adult and children’s choir for Milan First Baptist. She later became involved in St. Paul Lutheran in Milan. When she moved to Nashville after the passing of Charles, she became active with Forest Hills Baptist and then with Brentwood Baptist. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends experiencing life from playing games, to attending church, to dining, to traveling, to local attractions. She loved to experience and share life.
Judy is survived by sons, Michael (Keri) of Franklin, TN; Samuel (Janel) of Columbus, OH; granddaughter, Mattigan of Murfreesboro, TN; brother, James Gilmer of Cincinnati, OH; cherished cousin, Cheryl Welch of Versailles, IN and numerous other cousins, family and friends. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles, and her half-brother Don.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM Friday April 7 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Milan with Pastor Susan Socha officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 10-11 AM at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Ripley County Historical Society, or Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Ross Run Chapter.
