Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen has named Daniel Jones the team’s starting quarterback.

Jones was in a preseason competition with Anthony Richardson for the starting job.

He takes command of the Colts offense with less than three weeks before the Sept. 7 season opener at home against the Miami Dolphins.

In two preseason games this year, Jones completed 17 of 32 passes for 245 yards.

He did not throw for a touchdown nor turn the ball over, and was sacked just once in 34 drop backs.

Jones, who played college football at Duke, was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by the New York Giants.

He was released by the Giants last season and caught on with the Minnesota Vikings practice squad late in 2024.

In 70 games (69 starts), Jones has completed 64.1 percent of his passes for 14,582 yards with 70 touchdowns, 47 interceptions and 15 rushing touchdowns.
