John Thomas Stutz, 77

John Thomas Stutz, 77, of Blacklick, Ohio formerly of Greensburg, Indiana passed away on January 29, 2022 surrounded by loved ones, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. John was born on June 17, 1944 in Greensburg, the son of Marvin and Marcille Stutz. As a child, John loved the 4H and his hard work paid off in 1959 when his steer won Grand Champion in Rushville, Indiana. He was a 1962 graduate of Greensburg Community High School. John met the love of his life, Janie Renaud, while stationed at Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, NH. They married on March 5, 1966 before John was reassigned to Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan. Together they had two sons: John Corey and Jay Patrick and spent most of their lives in South Berwick, Maine. John previously worked at Bohn Aluminum in Greensburg and later retired from Pratt & Whitney Engine Services located in North Berwick, Maine. John enjoyed coaching youth baseball and especially enjoyed being the drummer for a band playing for the local snowmobile club. Even with Alzheimer’s, there were songs he could still ‘air drum’ along to. He loved playing softball and basketball late into his 50’s until according to him, ‘it took him longer to get ready for the game (putting on all his arm and leg braces), then the game itself’. Camping with family and friends was one of his favorite pastimes and has provided lasting memories for everyone that traveled with John and Janie.

John is survived by, two sons and their wives Corey and Holli Stutz, Jay and Katie Stutz (grandson Owen), his brother in law Maury Lay, brother in law and wife Edward Renaud and Donna; and his many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his Parents, sister Marsha (Stutz-Lay) and Wife.

At John’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Those who knew John, know he hated being fussed over and would rather help others than receive. In lieu of funeral services, and to honor John, we ask that all who wish to participate make a donation to First Christian Church of Greensburg, Indiana. Family will honor his legacy with a private celebration of life event at a later date. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.gilliland-howe.com
