Joe R. Calihan, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully at his home in Connersville, Indiana on March 20, 2026.
Born August 29, 1945 in Roxana, Letcher County, Kentucky, he was one of ten children born to the late Coolie & Versie (Lewis) Calihan. He grew up in a home filled with faith, family and love. His family moved to Indiana when he was a child, where he remained to raise his family. Joe enjoyed gardening and took great pride in maintaining his home and property.
Joe was a devoted husband to his wife, Lois (Reese) Calihan, with whom he shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life marked by true love, laughter and faith.
A gifted guitar player and singer, Joe shared his talents generously, bringing joy to his church and inspiring all who heard him. His faith was his foundation, and he lived every day as a true example of Christian love and kindness.
He retired from the former Ford/Visteon in Connersville, after 40 years of loyal and dedicated service. Outside of work, he found his greatest joy spending time with his family, who will always treasure his warmth, wisdom, and gentle humor. Joe also enjoyed many friendships that he maintained right through his retirement years. He had a generosity and strength of character others could count on.
In addition to his loving wife, Lois, survivors include two sons, Scott (Theresa) Calihan of Brookville, Indiana, Shawn (Terri) Calihan of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; five grandchildren, Katelyn (Blake) Gadzinski, Tyler (McKenzie) Calihan, Cole Calihan, Amber (Zachary) Frank, Crystal Calihan; three great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Caroline, Levi; a sister, Brenda (Gary) Ross of Cedar Grove, Indiana, as well as his loyal canine companion, Sassy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Delores Fields, Sadie Wells, Freida Smith, Betty Hofer, Pat Mays, three brothers, Stanley Calihan, Junior Calihan, Odell Calihan.
Family & friends may visit from 10:00 until 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.
Rev. Wayne Ison & Rev. Jeremy Horn will officiate the Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home. Burial will then follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville.
Joe’s legacy lives on in the music he shared, the faith he practiced, and the love he gave so freely. His life was a song of grace, and his melody continues in the hearts of all who knew him.
