JoAnn N. Fry, 72, of Greensburg, IN, passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2021.
JoAnn was born on December 1, 1948 in Sunman, IN to Louis and Elizabeth Gillman.
After graduating high school in Sunman, IN, JoAnn went on to Ball State University to
study Mathematics and German, where she graduated in 1970. She later received her
master’s degree from Indiana University. JoAnn was a middle school and high school
math teacher at South Decatur.
She married Douglas Fry on June 27, 1970. They were married 51 years. Together they
had 4 children, Jennifer, Brad, Brooke, and Kristen.
JoAnn enjoyed working within the community and took a leadership role in many of the
organizations in which she participated. She served as President of the Decatur County
United Fund in 2007, organized their Strawberry Festival and was named “Volunteer of
the Year” in 2014. She was a member of the Friends of the Library, Greensburg Country
Club Ladies Golf Association, Daughters of Isabella, volunteered for Meals on Wheels,
Hospice of Decatur County and at the Decatur County Hospital Gift Shop. She served on
the board of directors for the Decatur County Board of Health. She generously gave
her time to the parish of St. Mary’s counting collection funds and providing funeral
meals. She served as a girl’s youth softball coach and taught Bridge lessons at the
Greensburg Senior Citizen Center. JoAnn was very active in her beloved P.E.O.
sisterhood.
JoAnn loved spending time with her family in St. Joseph, Michigan, golfing with the
ladies at the Greensburg Country Club, and playing Bridge with her friends. She was an
accomplished baker, and enjoyed nothing more than dancing with her husband, Doug.
JoAnn is survived by her husband, Douglas, her children, Jennifer (Peter) Huber, Brad
(Amanda) Fry, Brooke (Travis) Owens and Kristen Fry; grandchildren Grace and Evan
Huber, Lane, Trace and Jesse Fry, Bella Owens and Francesca and Alexandra Fry; sister
Darlene Vicars, Lavonne (Tom) Moorman, Betty Lou Andres, Anthony (Micki) Gillman
and Mary Ann Lehr; several nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her
parents Louis and Elizabeth Gillman and her niece, Bobbi Vicars.
Family and friends will gather at 3:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home to pray the
rosary. Visitation will follow until 7:00 p.m. at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home
in Greensburg. The family will also receive friends from 9:00 until 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday,
October 26, 2021 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg. A Funeral Mass will
be held at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Bill Ehalt officiating.
Interment will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to Our Hospice of
Southeastern Indiana.
