Saturday was a tough day for a pair of local high school boys’ basketball teams.

In Class 1A, Oldenburg Academy’s Twisters were knocked out of post-season play in the regional championship 49-42, by the Greenwood Christian Academy Cougars.

It was close throughout, despite Greenwood star Max Booher running up 26 points, 18 of them in the first half.  Oldenburg’s Connor Miles and Jacob Stenger each scored 13, and Henry Wanstrath put in 12, but it wasn’t quite enough.  Greenwood Christian goes on to semi-state with a record of 18 wins and 7 losses, while OA still had a fine season, that ends at 13 & 12.

The Batesville Bulldogs lost their Class 3A regional in a rout by the Scottsburg Warriors, 84-46. Scottsburg jumped out to a 23-9 lead after the first quarter.  The Bulldogs only got outscored by 2 points the entire second half, but they were down 36 at the intermission, so the second half flew by, under a running clock.  Scottsburg moves on to semi-state next week, but Batesville finishes its season with a very good record of 20 wins against only 6 losses.

We hope you enjoyed our extensive high school hoops coverage of both the guys and the girls, all season.  It’s just one thing Terrance Arney will be talking about tonight on Coaches’ Corner, live from Ison’s Family Pizza at 6:00, only on WRBI.

Men’s college basketball in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament Sunday–  Indiana State’s Number 1 seeded 28 & 5 Sycamores got way behind the second-seeded Drake Bulldogs early.  The Fightin’ Trees couldn’t cut their big deficit for much of the second half… but then they did!  It was a furious 18-point comeback to slash Drake’s lead, but after ISU briefly went ahead by 1 point, the Bulldogs got back out front.  So even with a 3-pointer at the final horn, Indiana State narrowly loses, 84-80.  They could still make the NCAA tournament, though.

Also, UC smoked West Virginia 92-56 Saturday, and Number 8 Marquette knocked off Xavier, 86-80.  Sunday, Number 3 Purdue topped Wisconsin 78 -70, Ohio State belted Rutgers 73-51, and the only team of Hoosiers out there barely got by Michigan State, 75-74.

And last night in the NBA, the Pacers beat the Magic in Orlando, 111-97.

Cactus League baseball—  the Reds beat the Guardians 5-3 Sunday.  Cincinnati’s off today, but back in action tomorrow night, the broadcast against the White Sox starting at 8:50 on the Sports Voice, 103.9 WRBI.
