Our Rob Lafary writes for Thursday’s Versailles Republican that 2015 Batesville High graduate Bryan Hoeing has been sent from the east coast to the west, traded from the Miami Marlins to the San Diego Padres.  The move happened shortly before the 6 pm eastern deadline.  Bryan’s last game for the Marlins Saturday was an up note in his big-league career, his first win of this season, as he threw 3 strong innings at the Milwaukee Brewers, setting the Marlins up for a 7-3 victory.  Tuesday, Hoeing and All-Star closing pitcher Tanner Scott were traded to San Diego, in exchange for 4 up and coming minor-leaguers.  Hoeing and Scott are expected to sharply improve the Padres’ bullpen, heading toward the post-season.  Bryan’s ERA’s now down to a strong 2.70, which brought him attention from several potential playoff teams.  The Padres are currently 58 & 51 on the season, only 5 ½ games behind the Dodgers in the National League West, potentially in line for a wild card playoff spot.

Cincinnati executive Nick Krall says late moves the Reds made were designed to make them better for the long haul but keep positive parts of the club intact.  Pitcher Frankie Montas was sent to the Brewers in exchange for reliever Jakob Junis and outfielder Joey Wiemer, plus a million dollars cash.  Also, the Reds got first baseman Ty France from Seattle, and relief pitcher Lucas Sims was sent to Boston, with Cincy getting right-handed pitcher Ovis Portes.  The Reds also sent the Rangers some cash, for infielder Davis Wendzel.

Last night’s game saw the Reds pick up a second straight win over the Cubs, this one 6 to 3 at the Ballpark.  Santiago Espinal punched a 2-run homer into the Chicago bullpen on the way to a 4-hit night, and Tyler Stephenson batted a Jonathan India score in on a single, then Spencer Steer caught the final out in left field, sealing the victory.  Join us tonight, as the Reds go for the series sweep over Chicago, the broadcast arriving on your radio at 6:40, here on the Sports Voice, 103.9 WRBI.
