Baseball’s All-Star Game from Tuesday night’s behind the major-leaguers now, after the American League topped the National 5-3.  Tomorrow it’ll still be fun, but different, as the teams get back to business across the country, opening the 2nd half of the big-league season.  The Reds go into it coming off a 3-2 loss last weekend to the Miami Marlins, after beating them twice.  Cincinnati opens with a won-lost record of 47 & 50, tomorrow’s opponents the Washington Nationals close behind, at 44 & 53.  Their Friday night broadcast will begin at 6:15 tomorrow evening on the Sports Voice, 103.9 WRBI.

Still in action through the baseball break have been those professional women’s basketball players in the WNBA, including rookie Caitlin Clark, with her big summer continuing.  Clark’s now shattered the league’s single-game record for assist passes, dishing off 19 in last night’s Indiana Fever loss 101-93 to the Dallas Wings.  The old mark had been 18, set 4 years ago.  The WNBA’s taking a break for the Olympics, so the Fever won’t play again now ‘til the 16th of August.

The summer of Caitlin continues this weekend, too.  Clark, or at least her image, will be moving at 200 miles an hour beginning Sunday, at the Brickyard 400, on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway track.  In a new sponsorship agreement between Panini America and Stewart Haas Racing, Clark’s face in her University of Iowa uniform will be painted on the hood of Josh Berry’s Number 4 Mustang.  She’s a partner with Panini, the picture from one of her trading cards entitled “Raining 3’s.”  Berry, the driver, is currently 21st in the points standings, and says with Indy being such a great overall sports city, he’s honored to have Clark as part of the effort.

Another icon will be recognized at the Brickyard event.  Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick will serve as the honorary Pace Car Driver.  Besides the 30th anniversary of the 400, this year’s also the 40th for Hendrick’s company.  He says he can’t believe how fast time’s gone by over those 4 decades, and the 3 since Jeff Gordon won the first Brickyard 400.  In fact, Gordon’s Chevy Lumina from that race is going to be showcased in a special display in the track’s fan midway this weekend.

You could be there to see, hear, and feel everything about the big race Sunday.  Keep listening to Brent Lee, today and tomorrow.  Around 7:40, he’ll be giving away packages of 4 tickets to the race.  And if you’re not going, you’ll be able to hear it with us, here on the Place for the Race, 103.9 WRBI.
