The matchup is set for Super Bowl LVIII, with the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers taking their respective AFC and NFC championship games Sunday.  The Chiefs shut down the Ravens in Baltimore, 17 to 10, after the top-seeded Ravens had dominated the regular season.  Then San Fran was dominated in the first half of the NFC match by the Detroit Lions.  Detroit built a 17-point lead in that half, but the ‘9ers stormed back, scoring 27 in the second, knocking the Lions off for the win, 34-31.  The 58th Super Bowl will rematch the 54th, that was won by the Chiefs, in just under 2 weeks, on February 11th, in Las Vegas.

 

There were some super-competitive boys’ high school basketball games Saturday, including Batesville winning their second in 2 nights, getting by Hauser 54-50, just 24 hours after beating North Decatur by 21 points.  Other games had Aiken of Ohio edging East Central 64-61, and another Ohio school, Talawanda, topping Franklin County 38-32.  Also, Lawrenceburg beat South Ripley 48-37, Oldenburg Academy edged Knightstown 39-36, Switzerland County knocked off Milan 69-59, Tri defeated North Decatur 67-62, and Trinity Lutheran dropped Jac-Cen-Del, 54-43.

 

The girls are gearing up to start their post-season tomorrow night (Tuesday), with the sectional playoffs, and we’ll have a pair of games on the air for you back-to-back, as East Central’s Lady Trojans travel to Whiteland to face the Warriors on their home floor, and South Dearborn and Batesville square off in Lawrenceburg.  Our pregame coverage starts around 5:45, the first tipoff at 6:00, tomorrow, right here on WRBIRadio dot com, on the radio at 103.9 FM, and on the new WRBI app.

 

Men’s college hoops Saturday had UC’s Bearcats coming from behind to top Central Florida 68-57, Northwestern clobbering Ohio State 83- 58,  the 10th-ranked Illini dropping the Hoosiers 70-62, Ball State knocking off Northern Illinois 81-71, and a pair of overtime games, Butler topping Villanova, 88-81, and Indiana State surpassing Bradley, 95-86.  A couple games on Sunday saw Xavier getting smoked by #1 UConn 99-56, and 2nd-ranked Purdue topped Rutgers, 68-60.

 

Sunday NBA action had the Pacers defeating the Grizzlies, 116-110.
