Jerome M. “Jerry” Lamping

Jerome M. “Jerry” Lamping, age 86 of Oldenburg, Indiana, passed away, Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Margaret Mary Health in Batesville.  Born September 23, 1937, in Franklin County Indiana, he is the son of Marie (Bedel) and John Lamping.  He married Alice Joerger on October 13, 1962, at St. Martin’s Church in Yorkville, Indiana.

Jerry worked for Roman Nobbe for 10 years as a Truck Driver and then worked for Bruns and Gutzwiller General Contractors for 35 years as a Laborer and Heavy Equipment Operator, before retiring.  He was a veteran of the Army National Guard and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #1461, and the Oldenburg Conservation Club.  He was a Ray Township Trustee for 20 years and served on the Ray Township Advisory Board for 10 years.

Jerry was a man of faith. He attended Holy Family Church all his life and prayed throughout the day. He enjoyed spending time with family, following the Cincinnati Reds and never turned down a card game of Solo. Jerry took great pride in restoring his father’s 1931 Model A Ford and drove it often, even this past summer in the Oldenburg Parade. He always had a story to tell whether it was about times growing up on the family farm, the blizzard of 1978 when he worked 24/7 to plow roads, surviving the 1974 tornado hiding under his bulldozer or antics he had with his friends.

He is survived by his wife Alice of Oldenburg; daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Michael Meyer of Hamburg, Indiana; son and daughter-in-law Brian and Cindy Lamping of Batesville; sister Irene (Walter) Meyer of Batesville; brothers August (Bernice) Lamping of Hamburg, Cletus (Betty) Lamping of Batesville, Carl (Katie) Lamping and John (Carol) Lamping, all of Oldenburg; sister-in-law Edith Lamping of Hamburg; grandchildren Ann Randall, Megan Jewell and Kaden Lamping, great granddaughter Emma Jewell.  In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his sisters Angela Demoret, Bernadette Harpring and Rosemary Nobbe, and brothers Joseph, Alphonse, and Francis Lamping.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 24th, from 4 – 7 p.m., at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 25th, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg, with Fr. Carl Langenderfer OFM officiating.  The burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Oldenburg Eagle Fire Co. or to Batesville EMS-10.  For online condolences go to www.weigelfh.com.
