Jim was born on April 27, 1930, in Oldenburg, Indiana, the son of Albert J. and Mary (Brockman) Moorman. He married the love of his life, Joan Mollaun, on October 13, 1951, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville and would have celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this year.
Jim attended Batesville High School where he excelled in athletics, particularly baseball. He served honorably in the United States Army during World War II, stationed at SHAPE Headquarters in Paris during the reconstruction of Europe following the war.
After his military service, Jim worked at Romweber Furniture Company before beginning a long and dedicated career with the Batesville Telephone Company. He eventually retired from Verizon after 37 years of service as the Area Manager for Customer Service in Southern Indiana.
Jim and Joan were devout Catholics and faithfully attended daily Mass for many years following his retirement. Jim was a responsible, hardworking man who took great pride in maintaining a neat and orderly home, both inside and out. He enjoyed yard work, barbecuing, and cheering on the Cincinnati Reds. Jim and Joan also shared a love of golf and, on their 25th wedding anniversary, joined Hillcrest Country Club, where they remained members for more than 35 years.
Jim is survived by his wife, Joan of Batesville; son, Steve Moorman of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; daughter, Jama (Russ) Wanstrath of Batesville; daughter-in-law, Brenda Moorman of Batesville; and grandchildren James (Kate), Jack (Alli), Mike (Olivia), and Max (Alex) Moorman; Eric and Doug (Carol) Wanstrath; and Ariel (Dolfi) Manriquez. He was blessed with eight great-grandchildren, with another expected in April.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son, John Moorman; his brother, Urb Moorman; and his sisters, Mildred Bessler and Viola Simmermeyer.
