James “Jim” Harmeyer, 78, Greensburg

James “Jim” Henry Harmeyer, 78, of Greensburg, passed away on March 22, 2026, at The Willows of Greensburg, surrounded by those who loved him.

Jim was born on May 23, 1947, in Ripley County, the son of Henry and Geneva (Bunyard) Harmeyer. He graduated from Batesville High School in 1965 and soon after answered the call to serve his country in the United States Navy, a commitment he carried with great pride throughout his life.

After his military service, Jim returned home and began a long career with the United States Postal Service, serving as a rural mail carrier for more than 30 years. Alongside his postal work, Jim faithfully tended to his true passion—farming. Even after retiring from the Postal Service, Jim continued to farm, working the land with dedication and joy.

On June 9, 1973, Jim married Patricia “Patsy” Kohrman, and together they built more than 50 years of memories rooted in faith, family, and hard work. Jim was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he attended daily Mass and found peace in his faith.

Jim was happiest outdoors—walking his farm ground, staying busy, visiting farm auctions, and simply being surrounded by the land he loved.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Harmeyer; children, Anita Harmeyer and David (Becky) Harmeyer; grandchildren, Jack, Ben, Griffin, and Maggie Harmeyer; siblings, Mike (Doris) Harmeyer, Tony (Karen) Harmeyer, Betty (Joe) Cook, Gerry (Jim) Deller, Rita Schneider; as well as many nieces and nephews who adored him.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
