James ‘Butch” Larry Hosmer

 

James “Butch” Larry Hosmer, age 77 of Osgood passed away Thursday, June 10, 2021 at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Delaware, Indiana to the late Theodore and Dorothy Gilland Hosmer on April 16, 1944.

Butch was known for his crazy loving sense of humor! People in his neighborhood were used to seeing him sitting on his front porch waving and yelling at them with his big smile! He was jokingly and lovingly referred to as “Santas Little Elf.”

Butch had done many years of farming in his early days along with raising his family. He often boasted of how great of a roller skater he had been along with also being a good bowler. He bowled for many years on a Delta Bowling League. Butch also enjoyed woodworking making many different things for family and friends. Another thing he loved doing was going to the Amish Auction at Brookville, IN with his loving companion, Brenda. He was a past employee of Delta Faucet Company in Greensburg, IN where he had worked for 42 years. All that knew Butch and Brenda dearly loved them. They were a magic duo!
He will be ever so missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include, his faithful loving companion of 25 years, Brenda Simers, Osgood; sons, Darrell (Crystal) Hosmer of Sunman and Mark “Doc” (Michele) Hosmer of Dillsboro and Tom (Andrea) Youngman of Franklin. Daughters, Shelly  (partner, Tasha Gill) Simers of Osgood, Tina (Larry) Ashley of Greensburg and Monica (Tim) Kelly of Osgood. Four brothers, Bill (Lucille) Hosmer of Osgood, Harley (Sue) Hosmer of Owensboro, KY, Don Hosmer, Falmouth, KY, and Ken (Jeweline) Hosmer of Milan. Fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
Jim was preceded in death by a son, Travis Simers, one great-grandchild, Annistyn Ashley; four sisters, Shirley Jones, Jeanie Doan, Betty May and Mary Thompson.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Neals from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at which time the celebration will begin.
