Irwin W. Stang, age 97, of Brookville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024, at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville, Indiana.
Born October 19, 1926, in Franklin County, Indiana, he was one of eight children born to the late William & Louisa (Bender) Stang. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. On October 29, 1960, he and the former Marjorie Sintz were united in marriage, and she survives.
Irwin was retired, having worked as a machinist at the Fernald nuclear production facility and as a farmer in Franklin County. In his leisure time he enjoyed farming, gardening, sports, card games, storytelling, church activities, and spending time with family while eating sweets.
He was a member of Creekside Church at Klemme’s Corner, and he had been a member of the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion.
Besides his loving wife of over 63 years, Marjorie, survivors include two children and their spouses, Douglas (Hana) Stang of Mason, Ohio, and Barbara (Joseph) Bailey of Westfield, Indiana; four grandchildren, Adam (Kimberly) Stang, Maria Stang, Matt Bailey, Lauren Bailey; as well as one great-granddaughter, Lily Stang.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Omer Stang, Henry J. Stang, Nora Stang, Edith Miles, Hilda Stang, Lester Stang, and Ethel Anderson; and a great-grandson, Timothy Stang.
Military Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, March 25, 2024, by the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion Firing Squad, with burial following in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville.
