Irvin J. Amberger, 94, of Milan passed away on July 25, 2025. Irvin was born on October 28, 1930, in Batesville; son of Alois and Adele (Scheele) Amberger. Irvin served in the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam and Korean Wars. Irvin’s first job was at a furniture store and then later worked for Hillenbrand Casket Company, and a Connersville Factory, where he made fridges. He found his place at Monsanto, where he worked as a material handler for 37 years. That long-standing career was one of his proudest accomplishments. He was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church, a 50+ year member of the Milan Lions Club, and Milan American Legion Post #235. He married the love of his life, Helen (Riehle) Amberger, on August 7, 1954. She preceded him in death on December 6, 2022. He enjoyed tending to his yard, working around his house, and had a passion for detailing cars. In his early years he enjoyed playing baseball on Sundays and was known to be an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. He also enjoyed helping people in the community of Milan. He and his wife Helen were Grand Marshal of the 2020 Milan 4th of July parade. Irvin always drove his Mustang in the parade for many years. Irvin was also a volunteer for Milan Rescue #30 for many years as well as serving 60+ years at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home.
Irvin will be missed by his daughter Lola (Mark) Paras of Indianapolis; son Edward “Ted” (Angie) Amberger of Milan; brother Robert Amberger of Batesville; grandchildren Lauren (Maxwell) Hagan, Morgan (Nicholas) Davidson, Alexis (Michael) Luers, Taylor (Austin) King, Ean Amberger, and Adele Amberger; and great-grandchildren Lily Hagan, John Hagan, Thomas Hagan, Claire Davidson, and Matthew Davidson.
Irvin was preceded in death by his parents Alois and Adele Amberger; wife Helen Amberger; daughter Lisa Amberger; sister Alice Hausman; sisters-in-law Rita Amberger and Alma Laker; brothers-in-law Vic Hausman, Brother Ralph Riehle, Harry Laker, and Dennis Schwering.
Family and friends may gather in remembering Irvin from 4:00 – 7:00 PM, Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. A rosary service will be held at 3:45 PM, before the start of visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at St. Charles Catholic Church: 213 W Ripley St., Milan, IN 47031, with Father Shaun Whittington officiating. Burial will follow at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery with military rites provided by Milan American Legion Post #235. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Charles Catholic Church or Milan Volunteer Fire Department.
