Indiana Still Everywhere at Olympics

More athletes with Indiana connections are competing at the Paris Olympics.  They include IU grad Andrew Capobianco, who’ll be in the men’s 3-meter springboard diving event tomorrow.  Also diving will be current IU student Carson Tyler.

There’ll be action today for Granger native Sarah Hildebrandt, in women’s freestyle 50-kilogram wrestling.  She faces an opponent from Mongolia today, to get into tomorrow’s finals.  At the Tokyo Olympics, Hildebrandt won the bronze medal in this event.

The American women are playing Poland in the volleyball quarterfinals today, and they’re being led by players like Annie Drews, who was born in Muncie, lives in Elkhart, and went to Purdue.  She’s also 6’4″, and won gold with the US team 4 years ago.

Chloe Dygert of Brownsburg’s been involved in several bicycle racing events.  Her 3rd is the team pursuit.  It’s being run on a track today, and the 8 fastest teams out of 10 will advance to tomorrow’s next round.  Chloe won a bronze medal early in the Games in the road cycling individual time trials, and she did it despite crashing on a rainy course, since she was able to grab another bike and dash to finish only a second behind the silver medalist.

While his Pacers teammate Tyrese Halburton’s playing men’s basketball for the USA in the Olympics, guard Andrew Nembhard’s representing his native Canada.  Trey Lyles, who grew up in Indy, is also on the Canadian squad.  They’re taking on the home team, France, in today’s quarterfinals.
