Hunters arrested for spotlighting and shooting out of a vehicle

North Vernon, IN—Jennings County Conservation Officers had a busy first day of the shotgun season on Friday evening checking an area that had received multiple complaints of spotlighting and shots fired after dark.

While working in the area the officers observed a vehicle using an artificial light. The officers then observed the individuals in the vehicle shoot from the roadway. While attempting to stop the vehicle the individuals ditched the shotgun in a field. After the stop was made, 4 individuals were charged with criminal recklessness with a firearm, obstruction of justice, shooting from a roadway, and jack lighting.
The firearm was located with the help of District 9’s K-9 Libby. Jennings County Sheriff Department also assisted. The firearm and vehicle used were seized.
