Howard “Bud” Meyer, 87, Greensburg

Howard “Bud” Aloysius Meyer, 87, passed peacefully on May 11, 2024 at Aspen Place in Greensburg.

Bud was born on August 29, 1936 in Hamburg, Indiana to Albert and Martha Meyer. The second of 15 children, he grew up in a loving and close-knit family.

On June 28, 1961, he married the love of his life, Rita Ann Kramer, at St. Mary’s Church in Greensburg. Together they had eight children – Marcia (Daryl) Kurtz, Marlene (Clint) Tichenor, Jenny (Bill) Gehring, Steve (Sharon) Meyer, Nicholas Meyer, Becky (Dan) Walter, Ted (Jaimie) Meyer, and Adam (Joleen) Meyer. Affectionately known as “Pap,” Bud had 24 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

For more than 30 years, Bud worked full-time at Batesville Casket Company while also farming the land where he lived in Hamburg. He was a hard worker and a brilliant businessman, understanding the value of a dollar, with a reputation for being frugal.

Anyone who knew him knew he took great pride in his farm – living close to all God had created. After retiring from the factory, Bud decided to farm full time so he and Rita purchased a new home with farmland near Greensburg where they lived for the next 40 years.

Bud was loving and faithful. He loved country music and made it a tradition to visit the honky tonks in Nashville, Tennessee every chance he got. He also had a reputation for being quite the dancer and often enjoyed a good Jack and Coke with family and friends.

A devout Catholic, Bud attended St. Mary’s Church in Greensburg. He had the kindest soul and the best sense of humor. He didn’t know a stranger and had the ability to connect with the young and old alike.

Bud’s legacy will live on through his large and loving family, who will always cherish the memories they shared with him. His dedication to his work, his family and his faith will forever be remembered by all who knew him.
