House approves bill to protect military pay

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indiana House of Representatives approved unanimously House Bill 1324, co-authored by State Representative Randy Frye (R-Greensburg).

If approved the bill would ensure that state employees who are members of the Indiana National Guard or a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States are entitled to a leave of absence without any time lost while on active duty.

The proposal would allow for compensation in the amount that is equal to the difference between the member’s active duty military pay and the salary the member would have received if they were not called to active duty.

House Bill 1324 now goes to the Senate for further consideration.
