Houchin Touts Constituent Services

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Erin Houchin (R-Ind.) says her office has returned more than $6.5 million to residents of Indiana’s 9th District by helping them navigate federal agencies.

Since taking office, Houchin’s team says they’ve assisted constituents with issues involving the IRS, Social Security, Medicare, veterans’ benefits, and other federal programs. They claim their work has led to recovered payments, corrected records, and restored benefits for individuals, families, and small businesses.

“Casework is one of the most important responsibilities of our office,” Houchin said. “Every dollar returned represents someone who needed help navigating a government agency that can be overwhelming and unresponsive.”

According to a press release from Houchin’s office, one case involved Doug Drake, CEO of Personal Counseling Services Inc., whose nonprofit faced an unresolved IRS problem. With Houchin’s help, the organization recovered more than $380,000.

“I am extremely grateful for Congresswoman Houchin and her staff,” Drake said. “They stayed on top of our case and ultimately helped recover funds that were rightfully owed to my nonprofit.”

Another case affected Kettig Coghill and his adult daughter Tasha, who has Down syndrome. After Coghill’s wife died, a Social Security error mistakenly marked Tasha as deceased, cutting off her benefits and Medicare. Houchin’s office corrected the error and restored her benefits retroactive two years.

“When my wife passed away and Tasha’s benefits suddenly stopped, it was devastating,” Coghill said. “Congresswoman Houchin’s office treated our situation with compassion and urgency. I will always be thankful for their support.”

Houchin encourages constituents facing issues with federal agencies to contact her office at houchin.house.gov or call 812-288-3999.
