BATESVILLE, IN — Hoosier Girl Defense will present its inaugural two-part self-defense class to Batesville High School and Oldenburg Academy senior girls on May 10 and 17 from 9:35 until 11:05 am in the BHS auxiliary gym.

Hoosier Girl Defense is a non-profit started by Kara Shane and Amy Jelinek to provide high school senior girls self-defense classes in an effort to offer skills to protect themselves, whether they are going off to college or entering the workforce.

The class will be taught by Jeff Fredericksen, an instructor from Krav Maga Worldwide in Fishers.

Krav Maga is a military self-defense and fighting system developed for the Israel Defense Forces and Israeli security forces derived from a combination of techniques sourced from boxing, wrestling, judo, aikido, and karate, and is known for its focus on real-world situations.

The class will offer instruction on self-defense techniques and safety precautions.

Representatives from Safe Passage will also be present to provide information on available community resources.
