(Dearborn County, IN)- A Southeastern Indiana community has been hit by a “swatting” incident.
The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office says it received a call Tuesday night about a possible murder in Hidden Valley.
After investigating, deputies determined the call was a hoax also known as “swatting.”
That’s the act of making a false report of an ongoing emergency to public safety agencies with the intention of touching off a heavy law enforcement response – which often involves a SWAT Team – at a specific location.
Officials say this is done to harass, intimidate, or prank the targeted person or location.
The sheriff’s office says there is no immediate risk to the public and that they will investigate the origin of the call.
