Herman Cowan, age 93, of Laurel, Indiana died unexpectedly Sunday, March 24, 2024 at his residence.
Born May 17, 1930 in Clay County, Kentucky he was the son of the late Fred & Dicie (Ball) Cowan. On August 12, 1948 he and the former Lillian Haley were united in marriage and she preceded him in death on December 5, 2018.
Herman was retired, having been self-employed as an auctioneer for much of his life. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, horseback riding and reading western novels. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include two children, Nancy (Ronald C.) Spurlock of Connersville, Indiana, Dave (Janice) Cowan of Brookville; four grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Maynard Cowan of Moulton, Alabama and Roland Cowan of Elgin, Arizona; as well as several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, and wife, Lillian, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Rose Wolfe, and three brothers, Ernest Cowan, Bill Cowan and George Cowan.
Rev. Randy Edwards will officiate the Graveside Service on Friday, March 29, 2024, 1:00 P.M., at Hopewell Cemetery, South County Road 700 East, Rushville, Indiana 46173.
