Helen R. Enneking

Helen Rose Enneking, age 95 of Oldenburg, died Monday, March 27, 2023 at St. Andrew’s Health Campus.  Born April 28, 1927 in Franklin County Indiana, she is the daughter of Leona (Nee: Meyer) and William Oesterling.  She married Stanley Enneking June 1, 1949 at Holy Family Church.  Helen cared for him in his later years until his death on February 12, 2004.

Helen was a housewife all of her married life, except for teaching sewing at Oldenburg Academy for a few years.  She baked bread and cinnamon rolls almost every week.  Pies however, were her specialty and she was often willing to put one together at a moment’s notice.  She enjoyed cooking for her family and especially enjoyed preparing for the holidays, with Christmas her favorite.

She was an avid gardener and especially enjoyed growing flowers.  She also always had a large vegetable garden and canned throughout the summer, eventually growing lettuce and tomatoes in her flower beds when she no longer had a garden.  She was a faithful member of Holy Family Church and taught religion to those with special needs from the area for many years.  Although she always had a smile and a kind word for everyone, she was a stickler for manners and a force of nature when she got mad.  She loved children and was always drawn to the little ones.  She was a wonderful mother and will be greatly missed by her family.

Helen is survived by seven children: Greg (Lynn) Enneking of Greensburg, Mary (Jeff) Ollier of Batesville, Joe (Karen) Enneking of Batesville, Steve (Debbie) Enneking of Oldenburg, Andy (Diana) Enneking of Oldenburg, Connie (Ron) Luers of Oldenburg, Mike (Lisa) Enneking of Columbus, Indiana; sisters-in-laws Cordelia Harmeyer of Connersville, Joann and Karen Oesterling, both of Batesville, brother-in-law Thomas (Ace) Moorman; 20 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren with one on the way and one great great grandchild.  She is preceded in death by her husband, parents; brothers Herb and John Oesterling and sisters Kate Pohlman and Claire Moorman.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 30th from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home.  Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 31st at Holy Family Church with Rev. Carl Langenderfer officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family requests memorials to the Holy Family Capital Improvement Fund or Margaret Mary Health Foundation Hospice.  For online condolences go to www.weigelfh.com.
