H.S. ORVC, EIAC and MHC track and field championships

Switzerland County was the site of the ORVC Track and Field Championships.  In a thrilling finish, the Lady Raiders beat the host Lady Pacers 133-132 for the girls title.  Southwestern bested Milan 112.5-95 for the boys.

Event champions from South Ripley included two by Lanie Nicholson and one each from Emily Flood, Ryan Miller and William Tunny.  The Raiders also won the girls 3200 relay.  Nicholson broke the conference 800 record in a time of 2:26.06.

From Milan, Aden Potts posted two title efforts. Benjamin Riehle and Mason Green each claimed one blue ribbon.

Jac-Cen-Del’s Cloey Simon won twice while Kayla Simon, Josh Pohle, Emma Newhart and Corbin White all had a victory as well.

The Batesville boys track team won the EIAC Championship at South Dearborn. Lisa Gausman photo.

South Dearborn hosted the EIAC Track and Field Championships.  East Central captured the girls crown 186-112 over Batesville while the Batesville boys bested Lawrenceburg 127.33-94.5 for the boys trophy.

East Central’s Hope Fox, Leo Maxwell and Ellie Hill all won two individual titles. Rachel Campbell, Annabelle McDonald and Emma Hartley earned one each.  EC also claimed all three girls relays. The Lady Trojan 400 relay of Fox, Hill, Anna Graf and Campbell broke the conference record with a time of 50.26. Fox set a new EIAC record in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.41 and was named the Girls EIAC MVP. Maxwell broke both conference throwing records- 179’5” in the discus and 59’7.5” in the shot.

Batesville’s Benjamin Moster won a pair of events and was named the Boys EIAC MVP. The BHS boys also took the 1600 and 3200 relays.

Franklin County’s Christian Stortz was a two-time winner. Chad Cox and Jacob Schatzle both had one first place finish.  Cox broke the conference high jump record clearing 6’7”.

And from Greensburg, Emarie Jackson doubled up victories while a blue ribbon each was garnered by Matthew Stewart and Elizabeth Mitchell.  Jackson set a new conference record in the shot with a throw of 43’0.75”.

Southwestern Shelby hosted the Mid Hoosier Conference Track and Field Championships.  For the first time in school history, South Decatur won both titles in the same year topping Morristown by three for the girls and Hauser by 15-1/2 for the boys.  North Decatur took fourth in the boys and fifth in the girls.

Girls Team Rankings- 1 South Decatur 138, 2 Morristown 135, 3 Southwestern Shelby 111.5, 4 Waldron 78.5, 5 North Decatur 66 and 6 Hauser 31.

Boys Team Rankings- 1 South Decatur 119, 2 Hauser 103.5, 3 Morristown 77, 4 North Decatur 75, 5 Southwestern Shelby 74, 6 Waldron 51 and 7 Edinburgh 44.5

Cougar event champions included Trevor Newby, McKinley Shook, Maria Nobbe, Alli Nobbe, Paige Hibberd and both the girls and boys 400 relays.

Charger event winners included Caiden Gahimer and Ellis Loehmer.

South Decatur’s Kalli, Sariina Kalli and Dan Wenning were named MHC Track and Field Coaches of the Year.

Batesville’s Lisa Gausman- It was definitely a change tonight competing at the track meet. Instead of rain and cold it was sunny and hot, but that didn’t hold the Batesville Bulldogs back. Congratulations to the boys for coming away as the 2022 Conference Champions with a score of 127.33 points. Lawrenceburg came in 2nd just outscoring Connersville by 1.5 points 94.5-93.

Batesville also had the honors of Benjamin Moster being named as the boys Conference MVP scoring 25 points for the team, just beating out teammate Eli Pierson by a half a point. Benjamin was the Conference Champion in the 1600m run (4:25.15), the 800m run (2:00.78), the lead off runner in the 4 x 400m relay (3:33.96) and the anchor of the 4 x 800m relay (8:24.94). Congratulations Benjamin. Other members of those relay teams and being named Conference Champions were: 4 x 400-Daren Smith, Vonley Hund and Eli Pierson, 4 x 800m relay-Ean Loichinger, Isaac Trossman and Daren Smith. Way to go boys!

Connersville’s Jeff Cooley- The boys track and field team finished third place at the E.I.A.C. meet last night. Individual champions were Parker Sweet who won the 300 and 110 hurdles. Brayden Jones won the pole vault. The team performed well against tough competition.

The girls track and field team placed fifth. Brooke Sudhoff won the pole vault. Kaytlyn Seeley won the 400. The girls gave great effort and performed well.

South Decatur’s Sariina Kalli- Congratulations to the boys’ and girls’ track teams for taking both conference titles at last night’s MHC meet in Shelbyville. This was the first time in school history that both teams won MHC in the same year.

The girls won by 3 points over Morristown. Individual conference champs were Paige Hibberd – high jump, Alli Nobbe – discus, Maria Nobbe – 300 hurdles, and Kiley Best, Clair Schoettmer, Madisyn Danforth, and Zoe Meer – 4×100.

The boys won by 15.5 points over Hauser. Individual conference champs were Trevor Newby – 3200 meters, McKinley Shook – 110 hurdles, and Lucas Ballard, Owen Arreola, McKinley Shook, and Rhett Martin – 4×100 relay.

North Decatur’s Andrew Hocker- North Decatur Boys Vasity track finished 4th in their MHC Track meet. In their 4th place finish, the team had two individual conference champions.

The first was Caiden Gahimer. Caiden placed 1st in discus with a winning distance of 111-10. Caiden also placed fourth in shot put with a distance of 38-06.  The second was Ellis Loehmer. Ellis placed 1st in high jump with a winning height of 5-10. Ellis also placed 2nd in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.45 and 3rd in the 300m hurdles with a time of 45.53.

Congratulations to both of our conference champions and our team for competing and representing our school well during the meet.
