H.S. girls tennis recaps from Tuesday, April 12

The following are high school girls tennis recaps from Tuesday, April 12.  There may be updates, so please check back.

Oldenburg defeated Greensburg 4-1.

For the Twisters, Isabel Price and Alyssa Wanstrath got singles victories while their doubles teams of Mimi Wilder with Evelyn Storms and Emma Back with Mary Hunter also won.

The Pirates only varsity vic was by Abigail Hoeing at second singles.

Match results:

  • 1 singles- Isabel Price (OA) defeated Jenna Foster (GB) 3-6, 6-4, 10-5
  • 2 singles- Abigail Hoeing (GB) defeated Evie Vanderpohl (OA) 6-0, 6-0
  • 3 singles-  Alyssa Wanstrath (OA) defeated Morgan Cain (GB) 6-0, 6-0
  • 1 doubles- Mimi Wilder/Evelyn Storms (OA) defeated Ella Chapman/Josie Nobbe (GB) 6-3, 6-0
  • 2 doubles- Emma Back/Mary Hunter (OA) defeated Janae Comer/Hailey Duerstock (GB) 6-0, 6-2

The Lady Twisters are currently ranked 27th in the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association poll.

“This is the highest ranking we’ve ever had in my 15 years of coaching,” said OA coach Mark Wilder.  “The one thing people do not know about tennis is that it is not a ‘classed’ sport. Meaning, the small schools compete with the big schools every year to be crowned a state champion. So this list represents the entire state of Indiana for girls tennis!”

Greensburg secured four junior varsity wins.  Kayla Kramer and Leah West both won in singles and together in doubles.  Claire Nobbe and Annie Pumphrey also won in JV doubles.

JV match results:

  • Kayla Kramer (Gburg) defeated Kloie Lehman (OA) 6-1
  • Leah West (Gburg) defeated Kenlee Martin (OA) 6-0
  • Kayla Kramer/Leah West (Gburg) defeated Kloie Lehman/Kenlee Martin (OA) 8-4
  • Claire Nobbe/Annie Pumphrey (Gburg) defeated Lauren Richards/Lexey Simmonds (OA) 8-0

Franklin County defeated Rushville 4-1.

Wildcats took all spots except third singles. The FC doubles of Nicole Mears with Kaylin Knapp and Lola Mann with Regan Barker joined singles players Kacie Williams and Grace Roth in the win column.

The Lions Jin Calaf claimed the only Rushville victory.

In JV play, the Brookville ladies had two tandems win: Katherine Apsley with Halee Barker and Vivian Silas with Maria Arechinolaza.

For the Lion reserves, Megan Alexander was victorious in singles action while the doubles squads of Pitman/Newbold and Beard/Adams each posted wins.

East Central bested Batesville 5-0 in what was the Bulldogs first match of the season.

Trojan wins in singles play came from Heidi Kane, Peyton Pies and Daphne Smets.  Their doubles teams of Machella Batta with Elizabeth Kirchgassner and Avery Daniels with Kelsey Scholl also won.

  • 2 singles- Peyton Pies (EC) beat Laney Walsman (BHS) 6-0, 6-1
  • 3 singles- Daphne Smets (EC) beat Cara VanSickle (BHS) 6-1, 6-0
  • 1 doubles- Machelle Batta/Elizabeth Kirchgassner (EC) beat Cayman Werner/Annie Negovetich (BHS) 6-0, 6-0
  • 2 doubles- Avery Daniels/Kelsey Scholl (EC) beat Belle Westerfeld/Isabelle Wonnell (BHS) 6-3, 6-2

East Central also won the JV set 5-2.  Batesville reserve wins were carded by Josie Meyer (6-0) and the duo of Molly Meer and Kate Bauer (8-3).

South Dearborn fell 5-0 to Connersville.

Coach Don Karasek said the Lady Knights played much better than their first match.  The team’s Sportsmanship Award was given to Jessica Bloebaum and the Toughness Award went to Sydney Barth.
