(Greensburg, IN) – The Greensburg Wastewater Treatment Plant has received a statewide honor for its work in environmental conservation.
The facility was given the “Biosolids Award” by the Indiana Water Environment Association at the annual conference in Indianapolis for demonstrating leadership in developing and implementing cost-effective, environmentally sound, and publicly-supported biosolids reuse and management practices.
Biosolids are nutrient-rich organic byproducts of the wastewater treatment process that can be safely and beneficially reused.
They are commonly applied to farmland as fertilizer to improve soil quality and crop growth, or used in land restoration projects such as mine reclamation.
“We are extremely proud to receive this award,” said Wastewater Superintendent Joe Cain. “Our team works around the clock, every day of the year, to keep Greensburg’s wastewater system safe and efficient. This recognition highlights their dedication and the positive impact our work has on the environment and the community.”
