(Greensburg, IN) – Greensburg City Council and the Board of Works received an update Tuesday night from Decatur County Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Coordinator Mike Eggleston, on the unit’s efforts to help community members with mental health episodes and other crises.
He says they’ve hired a licensed clinical social worker, and recently brought two more response deputies on board.
It was in February when the city entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, which oversees the team.
Since the unit was launched, Eggleston says the CIT has received 67 service calls.
In addition to going on calls with law enforcement and other first responders, the CIT has been out with the Decatur County Health Department, teams from Decatur County Memorial Hospital, and a number of volunteer organizations.
“We answer calls wherever they come to us in Decatur County,” Eggleston said.
He adds the CIT will host a community event on May 29 at 7 p.m. in the Greensburg Junior High School auditorium in which the public can meet and greet team members and learn more about what they do.
