The Greensburg boys and girls cross country teams competed in the county meet Tuesday night hosted by South Decatur at the Southeastern Baptist Youth Camp, taking first place in both the boys and girls races.
The Lady Pirates won the meet with a low score of 32 pts. Greensburg’s Alaina Bedel was the Decatur County Champion for the second consecutive season. Bedel led the race from start to finish with a winning time of 21:52. Senior Tori Gauck ran a season-best time of 22:18 and placed second overall. That performance earned her All-County honors for the fourth year in a row. Brooke Welsh crossed the finish line for fourth place in 24:08 to make the All-County Team for the second time. Sophomore Alli Duncan lowered her season-best time to 24:27 taking seventh place in the race. Duncan was all-county for the first time. Freshman Avonlee Bohall was in 21st place in a time of 31:50.
The team scores were Greensburg, 32; North Decatur, 35; and host South Decatur 60.
In the boys’ meet, Greensburg took seven of the top 10 spots and won the meet with 19 pts. Quinton Walker led the Pirates to the victory. The sophomore won his first high school race with a time of 18:14 and was all-county for the second straight season. Chase Tekulve used a strong finishing kick to place 3rd in a personal best time of 18:21. His performance earned all-county honors for the second time. The next three runners for Greensburg were juniors. Xavier Cassis placed fourth in 18:22, his fastest time ever for 5 kilometers. Dante Hess ran 18:23 for 5th place while Malakai Nicolaides was 6th in 18:25. Both of those times were personal best performances. Freshman Henry Corya was all-Decatur County taking 9th place in 18:57 while teammate Conner Bedel broke the 19:00 barrier for the first time ever. Bedel ran 18:58 for 10th and also garnered all-county honors. Other Greensburg runners included Xavier Wade (19:37, personal best), Brayden Emery (20:27), Luke Dwenger (20:27), Ethan Clifford (20:57), and Dylan Herpel (24:50, personal best).
The team scores were Greensburg, 19 and North Decatur, 42. South Decatur did not have a full squad.
The Pirates are back in action on Saturday, September 28 in the Duke Meyer Cross Country Invitational at Hanover College. The race starts at 9:30 a.m.
