The St. Louis Girls 5th Grade team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 43-2 win vs the St. Mary’s School-Aurora on Tuesday, February 4. The Cardinals jumped to a commanding lead early and never looked back against the Bulldogs. The Cardinals were lead in scoring by Ella King and Madden Showalter which each had 10 points apiece. Belle Young added 6 points, Mimi Smith had 5 and Gina Grote added 2 points and played very good defense throughout the game. The story of the game was the reserve players for the 5th Grade team. They were able to see expanded minutes and they all were able to contribute. Grace Gutzwiller had a solid game scoring 6 points and adding a few steals. Riley Siegel scored 2 points and added rebounding and steals as well. Finally, Grace Saner scored her first basket of the year and improved greatly as the game went on.  All eight Cardinals scored and contributed throughout the whole game. The Girls 5th Grade’s next game will Thursday, February 6th against St. Mary’s Greensburg at 6 pm.

The St. Louis Lady Cardinals traveled to St. Mary’s-Aurora. The Cardinals were only down 2 at the half, but in the end, they didn’t come out with a win. The Lady Cardinals lost 16-11. Leading the offense was Rachel Suttmann with 6 points. Cora Roth and Bridget Lohmueller chipped in 2 points each and Meg Ritter added 1 point. The loss brings the current record to 2-4.

The 7th Grade Lady Bulldogs traveled to Columbus Tuesday night to take on a talent Columbus Northside team.  The Bulldogs dug a hole early getting down 16-3, and could not recover from the slow start despite a good showing in the second half. The final score was 32-15.  Leading the way scoring was Veronica King with 5 points; followed by Obermeyer 3 points;  Haskamp 3 points; Powner 2 points; and Turner 2 points.

The 8th Grade Lady Bulldogs lost to Columbus Northside last night, 30-12. The Bulldogs outscored Columbus in the second half and did not allow Columbus to score at all in the 3rd quarter. The leading scorer was Kaylin Hinners with 6 points. Next up the Lady Bulldogs will face St. Louis on Monday.
