(Greensburg, IN) – Greensburg Elementary School received a visit from INDOT Southeast as part of the agency’s Bike IN Safe program last week.

INDOT officials provided each first and second grade student with a bicycle helmet, stickers, coloring sheets and bike safety information geared to young children.

This included how to properly wear a helmet, rules of the road, how to avoid distractions, and other safety tips.

INDOT Southeast Stakeholder Services Director Annie Walker led the presentations.

“We focus a lot on safety improvements on the roadway and this is a way to reach a younger generation to reach them a different way,” Walker said.

INDOT Southeast has distributed nearly 4,000 helmets to more than 25 local schools this year. About 2,000 more helmets will be delivered to first- and second graders over the next year.
