Gerald E. Lawrence, 94, of Greensburg passed away on November 18, 2024; born May 9, 1930 in Greensburg, the son of Claud E. and Wilma O. Griffin Lawrence. Gerald was a 1948 graduate of New Point High School and was a United States Navy Veteran, retiring after 40+ years in the Naval Reserves. Gerald married Dorothy E. McNeely on June 15, 1952 and, together, they had four children: Vickie, Douglas, Jennifer and Cathy. He retired after 34 years with Bohn Aluminum and then, again, after working at Tree City Tool for 25+ years. Gerald was a member & Deacon of the First Christian Church and a former Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at New Point Christian Church. Gerald was a former Boy Scouts Scout Master and recipient of the Silver Beaver Award; has been on the Sheriff’s Merit Board since 1982; Masonic Lodge, Lucky Investment Club; Republican Central Treasurer for 37 years; Greensburg Country Club; Greensburg Optimist Club-President and Foundation Rep; District Optimist Club Foundation Rep, Dime A Day Rep, Audit and Finance Chair, District Candidate Qualification Committee Chair, Club Service Committee Chair, Leadership Development Chair, District Governor, District Lieutenant Governor; International Optimist Club Convention District Ambassador.
Survivors include: wife, Dorothy Lawrence; daughters, Vickie (Roger) Pressler, Jennifer (Paul) Krause, and Cathy (Mike) Endris; grandchildren, Amy (Joe) Lumpkins, Whitney Stewart, Breanne Krause, and Brandon Krause; great grandchildren, Jocelyn Lumpkins, Chandra Lumpkins, Blaiden Adams and Danica Lumpkins; brothers, Paul L. (Janet) Lawrence, and Mervin R. (Agatha) Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Douglas Lawrence; sister, Dorothy Wolford; and brother, James Lawrence.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024 at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at the funeral home at 11:00 am. Pastors Danny Wolford and Ray Sweet will be officiating. Burial will follow at the South Park Cemetery.
