George W. Scheele

George W. Scheele, age 83 of Batesville, died Wednesday, August 19, 2020 two days shy of his 84th birthday. Born August 21, 1936 in Batesville, he is the son of Olivia (Nee: Dietz) and Fred Scheele Sr. He oversaw maintenance at the former Amoco station in Batesville for 53 years before retiring in 2003.

Never married, George enjoyed time with his too numerous to count nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He dearly loved time spent with family, especially during Christmas and filling the role of Santa or Santa’s elf. A Ford man, George was proud of his ’77 Thunderbird and to say he was an avid Reds fan is an understatement. A cold beer went well with any of those activities. To paraphrase the ole’ Left Hander, “George has rounded third and is headed for home.”

He is survived by his sister Louella Voegele of Batesville; brother Fred Scheele Jr. of The Villages, Florida and those numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by sisters Rosemary Prickel and Arnelda Prickel.

Visitation is Friday, August 21st, from 9 – 11 a.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Louis Church with Rev. Stan Pondo officiating and burial in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Margaret Mary Health Outpatient & Cancer Center (formerly the Hansen Center) or Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Research. The current Governor’s mandate requires all attendees wear a facemask and observe physical distancing. The mask must cover the individual’s nose and mouth at all times.
