Gaylord N. Houze, 81, of Aurora passed away Monday, August 2, 2021, at St. Elizabeth in Florence, Kentucky. Gaylord was born on Saturday, May 11, 1940, in Rising Sun, Indiana the son of Norman and Lavonia (Canfield) Houze. He married the love of his life Carole (Bruns) Houze on August 29, 1959. Gaylord proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He attended the Church of Nazarene and the Alliance Church. Gaylord worked for Alton Box Company in Aurora for 30 years, Georgia Pacific in Cincinnati for 12 years, and at the Dearborn County Hospital for 2 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #231 in Aurora and a member of the NRA. Gaylord could be found outdoors doing what he enjoyed most, whether he was hunting, fishing, going to and watching sprint car races or NASCAR. His greatest passion in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Gaylord will be missed by his loving family including his wife Carole of 61 years from Aurora; daughters Debbie (Greg) Kleinholz of Missouri and Cindy Houze (Rick Lane) of Dillsboro; brother Noel Houze of Aurora; Uncle Glenn (Betty) Canfield; and grandchildren Shelby Kleinholz, Jacob Kleinholz, and Layne Dohn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Lavonia, sisters Sharon Dyer and Doris Kinnett.
Family and friends may gather in remembrance of Gaylord from 9-11 AM Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. A service celebrating his life will be held at 11 AM Saturday, August 7, 2021, also at the funeral home led by Celebrant Heather Bressert. Burial will follow in Mt. Sinai Cemetery with full military rites provided by the South Eastern Indiana Honor Guard. Memorials may be given in honor of Gaylord to the American Cancer Society or the Wounded Warrior Project.
