Gary F. Swegman, 79, of Greensburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis. He was born on November 1, 1946, in Greensburg, Indiana, to Fred and June (Moore) Swegman.
Gary was a 1965 graduate of Greensburg Community High School. On May 14, 1966, he married the love of his life, Norma Jean Witkemper. Together, they shared 60 years of marriage and built a beautiful life centered around family.
Over the years, Gary worked at Delta, Meadow Gold Dairy, and Hauck Industries before beginning his career at GECOM, where he eventually retired.
Gary was a witty man who was always quick with a joke and loved making those around him smile. He especially cherished time spent with his family, whether camping, traveling, or simply enjoying one another’s company. He was a loving husband, proud girl dad, and devoted boy Papaw.
Some of Gary’s favorite moments were the simple ones spent sitting outside with Jean, listening to music, and enjoying a beverage together. He had a love for cars and enjoyed watching Motor Week. Gary was also a loyal fan of the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, and Indiana Fever.
Gary will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Jean; daughters, Pamela Swegman (Steve Powers) and Melissa Merriman (Jeff Harrington); grandsons, Luke Anderson (Karolina), Logan Merriman (Katrina Loveless), and Jacob Merriman; and sister, Diane Lozier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and June Swegman; and sister, Patty Estes.
Private graveside services will be held at South Park Cemetery.
