Fred Allen Taylor, 86

Fred Allen Taylor, 86, of Rising Sun passed away March 9, 2025 at Envive Care Center, Lawrenceburg. He was born in Grant County, Kentucky on January 16, 1939, the son of Rev. Forest and Viola Taylor. The family moved to Rising Sun in 1953 when Rev. Taylor became Pastor at the First Baptist Church.

Fred graduated from RSHS, Class of 1957 and went on to graduate from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He worked at funeral homes in Bloomington, Scottsburg, Madison and English, Indiana before returning to purchase the McClure Funeral Home in 1972 and Detmer Funeral Home in 1976, combining them into Humphrey-Taylor-Detmer Funeral Home. He worked in funeral service over 50 years before retiring and closing the funeral home in 2016.

He volunteered for the Rising Sun Fire Department and Life Squad for many years, served two terms as Ohio County Coroner and was on the Rising Sun Board of Zoning Appeals

On June 11, 1960 he was joined in marriage with Betty Henry and they shared 64 years together. They welcomed two sons, Douglas and Brian.

He is preceded in death by his parents and by brothers, Wendell and Durard Taylor.

Left surviving are his wife, Betty, sons Doug (Tammy Pickett) and Brian (Ann) Taylor, five grandchildren, Darci (Andrew) Bayne, Mitch (Tiffany) Taylor, Shelby Hochstrasser, Kelli (Hassan) Thompson and Kyle Taylor and by eight great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at the Markland Funeral Home, Rising Sun, 6-8 PM. Public graveside services will be held Thursday, March 13, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Cedar Hedge Cemetery, Rising Sun. Memorial donations may be made to the Rising Sun Fire Department or Rising Sun-Ohio County EMS.
