Franklin County’s late heorics highlight Nov. 12-13 weekend girls HS games

Girls High School Basketball Recaps from the weekend of Friday, Novmeber 12 and Saturday, November 13.

Franklin County erased an 11-point deficit at halftime to defeat Northeastern 54-53.  The Wildcats Nicole Mears hit two free throws to tie the game at 53. Then Alex Gillman hit the go ahead and what proved to be the game winning charity toss.  The Knights had one more chance, but Gillman intercepted the long inbound pass to end the game.

Kiersten Schell led Franklin County in scoring with 18 points,  Kassidy Schell had 14.

Lawrenceburg lost by four to Scottsburg, 51-47.  The two teams were tied entering the fourth quarter.  Lizzie Redar led LHS in the loss with 20 points, Kirsten Cross scored eight.  Cross and Chloe Meyer both had seven rebounds.

South Decatur fell to Rising Sun 64-44.  Loryn Pate posted 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Cougars and teammate Makayla Somers scored eight.

The Shiners saw four players reach double figures in scoring.  Alyssa Simpson had a massive double double with 21 points and 18 rebounds.  Jenna Peelman and Nora Powell both put in a dozen points while Baylie Morris added 11 points and eight boards.

Batesville lost 43-31 in Liberty to Union County.  The Bulldogs fell behind 9-0 after the first quarter.  The team finished just 1 of 14 from three-point range and 4 of 13 at the line.

Alyson Peters’ eight points and six rebounds were both tops for BHS.  Sophie Gesell added six points and five boards. Carly Pride scored five points and had three steals.

Rushville defeated South Dearborn in an EIAC contest 58-13. Bryiley Munchel led the Lions with 15 points while Annika Marlow scored 11. Marlow and Cassidy Tellas both had six rebounds. Jin Calaf logged four assists and six steals.

Rising Sun was a 53-32 winner over Clarksville. Alyssa Simpson was the top Shiner scorer with 16 points. Kieran Groover posted 13 and Baylee Morris contributed 11. Simpson and Jenna Peelman both recorded a dozen rebounds. Morris had five assists and five swipes.

Southwestern Hanover suffered a tough 36-34 loss to Henryville. Kylie Eccles and Emma Long both netted nine points for the Rebels. Eccles also collected seven rebounds, seven takeaways and four dishes.

Morristown beat big county sister Shelbyville 47-38. The Yellow Jackets 16 points from Reagan Kleine and 14 via Gracie Laster. Kleine also had team-highs in both rebounds and assists with nine and five respectively. Laster was tops in thievery with four steals.

North Decatur defeated Batesville at the Dog Pound 52-46.  ND outscored BHS at the line 15-2.

Madelyn Bohman poured in 24 points for the Chargers and also contributed six rebounds, three assists and five steals. Ella Kunz had a team best seven boards and scored nine points  Kacey Barker also netted nine points.

Emma Weiler scored 12 and had four assists in the loss for BHS.  Alyson Peters scored eight and recorded five takeaways.  Sophie Gesell logged six points, nine rebounds, six assists and three swipes.

Oldenburg lost to both Southwestern schools over the weekend.  The Twisters fell to Southwestern Hanover 56-35 on Friday and to Southwestern Shelby 40-20 on Saturday.

Against the Rebels, OA’s Emma Weberding had 10 points and seven rebounds, Ellie Ryan scored nine while both Kate Weber and Rachel Lamping had four assists.

And Against the spartans, Weberding led again with six points and six rebounds. Hannah Haverkos recorded a three-of-a-kind with five points, five boards and five steals.
