Fire Education day provides challenges

Greensburg, IN — Saturday morning elected officials from the City of Greensburg gathered at the Greensburg Fire Station to participate in Fire Education Day. Those participating included Mayor Josh Marsh, Washington Township Trustee Christian Rust, City Council and Board of Works member Jaime Cain, and Board of Works member Glenn Tebbe among others there for the support.

Greensburg Fire Chief Nathan Stoermer says this gave officials an opportunity to truly understand why when they make equipment requests that can get expensive, they are so important,

Activities included using a climbing the 102-foot ladder, a fire a smoke simulation in the Indiana Department of Homeland Securities mobile fire trailer, vehicle extraction, fire extinguisher usage, seeing the effects of a deployed airbag, and demonstrations on the department’s newest tool, a drone with heat sensors to detect people present in buildings.

After a hard day’s work, everyone present was treated to a traditional fireman’s lunch, but was unfortunately cut short due to a structure fire at Lake McCoy.
