Esther Bertha Bausback, nee Gutapfel, age 90, formerly of Sunman, IN and Greensburg, IN passed away on Monday, Nov. 20, 2017 at St. Andrews Healthcare facility.
Esther was a country girl who had many adventures on the farm with her two sisters and three brothers while growing up. Esther worked hard at every task she tackled. She enjoyed nearly 35 years of working at the business that she owned with her sister, Anna Marie – – Twin Oaks Grocery. She served in the Eastern Star chapter of Greensburg, IN and was in the Shriners Guild for many years. Esther loved to travel, bowl on a Friday night mixed league, and volunteer at the Decatur County Hospital. But her greatest joy was her thirteen nieces and nephews that she raised as if they were her own. She forgave them for the many problems/scrapes that they got into; without question. She disciplined them (gently, of course) over the years and loved spending time with them as they grew up and started their own families.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband of 13 years, Emerson “Gene” Bausback as well as her parents, Raleigh and Bertha (nee Hildebrand) Gutapfel and her brother, Alvin (Arlene) Gutapfel of Sunman, IN.
She is survived by her sisters, Anna Marie (Harold) Clemenz of Greensburg, IN and Ruth (Allen) Huber of Sunman, IN and her brothers, Raleigh Jr. (Pat) Gutapfel and Cletus (Patsy) Gutapfel, both of Sunman, IN. Esther leaves behind six nieces and seven nephews (and their spouses and children) who will cherish her memory. Esther had three step-children: Marlene (Jay) Boylan of Orange, CA; Dan (Jeannie) of Greensburg, IN; and Larry (Linda) Bausback, who preceded her in death. She also had ten step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017 from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, IN. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, IN. Graveside services will follow at the South Park Cemetery, Greensburg, IN.
