Emma “Jean” (Craig) Schmaltz, 78, of Moores Hill passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Ridgewood Health Campus. Jean was born on Monday, September 3, 1945, in Florence, Indiana; daughter of Raymond and Rosetta (Niccum) Craig. Jean married the love of her life, Daniel Schmaltz on March 7, 1988, and he preceded her on June 20, 2015. Jean worked at U.S. Shoe and later worked for USPS in Moores Hill as a mail carrier. Jean was a member of the F.A.R.M Club, enjoyed camping with her friends and playing solitaire on her tablet. Most of all Jean cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Jean will be missed by her daughters Nola (Tom) Riley of Moores Hill and Angela “Angie” Colen of Moores Hill; sister Lois (Harland) Smith of Rising Sun; sister-in-law Linda Craig of Sweetwater, Tennessee; 7 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Rosetta Craig; husband Daniel Schmaltz; son Ricky Lynn Turner; daughter Caroline Sue Turner; brothers Melvin Craig and William “Bill” Craig; and sister-in-law Lavarne Craig.
There are no services per Jean’s request. Memorials may be given in honor of Jean to the Donor’s Choice.
