Emil A. Kuntz, age 85 of Oldenburg, Indiana, died Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville. Born June 15, 1931, he is the son of Veronica (Nee: Meyer) and William Kuntz. He married Patricia Welsh on June 9, 1956 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Mayslick, Kentucky. Emil was an Army veteran serving his country during the Korean War. He was a lifelong farmer and drove a school bus for a few years for the Batesville Community School Corporation. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3183, Knights of Columbus Council #1461 and Holy Family Church.
Emil loved spending time outdoors whether it was working on his farm, taking a stroll through the woods or cutting firewood. He enjoyed following the Cincinnati Reds and watching all the different college basketball teams play. He was an avid reader, a history buff and also enjoyed playing cards. His true passion though was his family.
Emil is survived by his wife Patricia; daughters and sons-in-law Kathryn and Tom Dietz of New Alsace, Indiana, Mary Pat and Louis Frey and Carol and Rick Lecher, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; sons and daughters-in-law Stephen Kuntz of Oldenburg, William and Geraldine Kuntz and James and Pauline Kuntz, all of Batesville; sister Luella Bogenschutz of Indianapolis, Indiana; brother Ralph (Sue) Kuntz of Napoleon, Indiana; 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Alice Meer.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 16th, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 17th at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg, with Rev. Jeremy M. Gries officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military graveside rites being conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and by the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271.
