Elva I. Laws, 100 of Moores Hill passed away Friday April 21, 2017 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. Elva was born Thursday January 4, 1917 in Sparta the daughter of John S. and Stella Mae (Popham) Ickenroth. She married James R. Laws September 28, 1946 and he preceded her in death October 28, 1990. She was a member of the Milan United Methodist Church, Milan Legion Auxiliary, Milan VFW Auxiliary, The Indiana Nurses Association and RN Club of Dearborn County. Elva Graduated from Moores Hill High School in 1934 and later graduated Bethesda School of Nursing in Cincinnati 1939. She worked at the Whitlatch Clinic and Hospital for 8 years under Dr. Warn from 1962-1968. She retired from the Ripley County Health Nurse in 1975. During all of those years she still helped her husband at the funeral home. Elva enjoyed knitting, cooking and spending time with her family.
Her survivors include sons: Robert James (Gail) Laws of Moores Hill; Jon Noble Laws of Bloomington, IN; 4 Grandchildren: Lisa Marie Kohli, Carly (Ryan) Langferman Kerry Laws and Robert James-Noble (Jenny) Laws. 6 Great Children: Trenton, Grant, Beckett Langferman and Kameron Laws Adalynn Laws, and James Noble-Knight Laws. She was preceded in death by her husband James Robert Laws, daughter Nikki Marie Laws in 1996, brother: Dale Ickenroth.
Funeral services will be at 10:30AM Tuesday April 25, 2017 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan with Pastor Tom Holt and Pastor Pam Wooden officiating. Burial will follow at Craven Cemetery south of Milan. Visitation will be Tuesday 9-10:30AM also at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Milan Fire Department, Milan Dollars for Scholars or Milan Moving MES Forward.
