Edward J. Wilhelm

Edward J. Wilhelm, age 82 of Batesville, died Saturday, March 30, 2019 at The Waters of Batesville.  Born July 13, 1936 in Batesville, he is the son of Clara (Nee: Bedel) and Carl Wilhelm.  He served overseas in the Army from 1955 to 1957.  After his discharge, he went to work for Hillenbrand Industries as a dispatcher, retiring in 2001 after 43 years.

Eddie was fixture in the community.  An avid golfer, you could always find him at the golf course.  He also rode his bike daily, weather permitting, and for the last 50 years, he attended the football games as well as the boys and girls basketball games at the high school.  According to his family though, in recent years, you might see him nod off if the action on the court or field didn’t hold his attention.  Eddie was also a fan of the old western movies form the Gene Autry/Roy Rogers era and big band music.

He is survived by his sister Helen Eckstein of Batesville; brothers Art, Alvin and Robert Wilhelm, all of Batesville, along with numerous nieces and nephews.  Visitation is Saturday, April 6th, from 9 – 10:30 a.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home.  Funeral services follow at 11 a.m. at St. Louis Church with Rev. Stan Pondo officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Ripley County V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271.  Memorials should be made to the Batesville Athletic Boosters Club.
