Edna Mary (Kappes) Yagami, age 85

Edna Mary (Kappes) Yagami, age 85, of Georgetown, Kentucky passed away Monday, November 11, 2024. Edna was born on July 29, 1939, the daughter of the late Raymond and Ethel (Freel) in Enochsburg, Indiana.

Edna was welcomed home with the Lord’s Grace. She grew up outside of Napoleon and was a graduate of Napoleon High School Class of 1957. She attended St. Elizabeth Nursing College in Covington, Ky. on a 40-8 Military Veteran’s Scholarship. She graduated in 1960 and rode a train out west. She began her nursing career at Santa Fe Railroad Hospital in La Junta, Colorado. She would meet and marry Sadao Yagami Sr. in 1963 in La Junta, Colorado.

Edna was involved in the Denver Community serving as a Girl Scout Leader with the Mile-Hi Council, was also involved with the Cub Scouts in Denver Area Council. IN 1976, the family moved to Kentucky she continued nursing for 17 years at Marcum-Wallace Memorial Hospital in Irvine, Kentucky.

She will be dearly missed by daughters; Sachiko Yagami of Georgetown, Kentucky, Sumiko Coleman of Lexington Kentucky, Setsuko (Keith) Pigeon of New Britain, Connecticut, and Shizuko Dawes of Richmond, Kentucky, brothers; Norman (Connie) Kappes, Frank (Debbie) Kappes, and John (Teresa)  Kappes, Sisters; Carol Bradley, Velma (Jerry) Armstrong, Rosemary (Rick) Hooten, Regina (Doug) West, Martha (Jeff)) Peasley, and Debbie Schmidt. Grandkids; Morgan (Steven) Richie, Amanda (Brad) Barnett, Sara Caldwell, Shane Caldwell, Celeste Caldwell, Wm. Daniel Coleman Jr., Tashiko (Danial) Isaacs, Hanako Coleman, Kimiko Dawes, and Rieyako Pigeon, Great Grandchildren; Makenzie Burdine, Kevin Burdine, Mason Richie,  Dixie Barnett, Evan Barnett, Orianna Caldwell, Ethan Darbonne, Jermery Isaacs, Nathan Isaacs, Logan Deckert , and Aurora Dees.

She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Ethal Kappes, Husband Sadao Yagami Sr., son Sadao Yagami Jr., brothers; Louis, Martin, Richard, Alvin (Duke) Steven (Bear) Kappes and sister Christina Kappes – Hoff.

Visitation will be held on Friday November 15, 2024 from 12-1 pm. at St John’s Catholic Church in Osgood. Funeral mass will be held at 1 pm. with Father Binu Matthew officiating.  Burial will follow at St John’s Catholic Cemetery in Osgood.  Online condolences may be placed at Nealsfuneralhome.net
